The Cincinnati Bengals are one of just three teams to reach out to Ohio State defender Chase Young before the 2020 NFL draft.
Young is just that great of a prospect.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, no team past the Detroit Lions at No. 3 has even bothered to reach out:
“While the #Redskins have opened up the possibility of taking a QB at No. 2, appears other teams believe #OSU DE Chase Young will be gone second or at worst, No. 3. No teams past #Lions have reached out to him. Either lying in wait… or teams past 3 think they have no shot at him.”
This means the Bengals have reached out and done their due diligence — as expected.
A prior report stated the Bengals were considering four players at No. 1 and Young was the only non-quarterback mentioned. Besides, Young, the names mentioned there were Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert and LSU’s Joe Burrow.
It should go without saying at this point but the Bengals are all-in on Burrow. Throwing Young on the same line as Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap — never mind some of the depth players — would be wild fun and problematic for AFC North teams.
And while adding players who can get after quarterbacks remains a need, the Bengals remain adamant fixing quarterback first with Burrow is the top priority.
