Report: New Orleans Pelicans to sign Isaiah Thomas to 10-day contract

The New Orleans Pelicans will reportedly sign veteran guard Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract.

The New Orleans Pelicans will reportedly sign veteran guard Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract, as reported by ESPN’s Andrew Lopez. Thomas has not played in the NBA since Feb. 3, 2020, but was recently a part of Team USA in FIBA qualifying games, leading to him drawing interest from teams.

The Pelicans are in the midst of an injury crisis of sorts with Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson missing Thursday’s game against the Magic and the trio plus Josh Hart set to miss Friday’s game against the Hawks.

Thomas played 40 games with the Wizards in 2019-20, averaging 12.2 points per game on 40.8% shooting from the field and 41.3% shooting from the 3-point line. Over the last three seasons, Thomas has played just 84 games in the league.

Per Lopez, Thomas has been in New Orleans undergoing COVID-19 testing and is slated to be available for Sunday’s game against Houston. The Pelicans began the process of signing Thomas before the recent injuries to Ingram, Williamson and Hart, though his presence will now be ultra-valuable.
