Given where the Brooklyn Nets stand right now and what they have looming for next season — Kevin Durant — the need to make a move at the 2020 NBA Trade Deadline doesn’t exist like it does for other teams around the league.
Unless Sean Marks feels there are certain players he cannot re-sign after the season (i.e. Joe Harris), he can make whatever moves he deems necessary to further bolster the roster over the summer.
But that doesn’t mean the Nets can’t look around and see how teams feel about some of their valuable assets. Why not take a look now? Especially since at least one other team has reportedly reached out to the Nets about some of their pieces, too.
According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Nets have at least kicked the tires on one guy: Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins.
A league source mentioned Houston and Brooklyn specifically expressing interest in acquiring Collins in the days leading up to the trade deadline.
As for compensation, well, Nets fans may not feel comfortable with the idea:
Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie was mentioned in talks, but it’s unclear how advanced those discussions were.
The report did not specify which side brought up Dinwiddie.
