After suffering a season-ending injury in December, David Nwaba’s future with the Brooklyn Nets is in question.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets are waiving the wing following his season-ending Achilles surgery.
Nwaba was under contract through next season. However, his contract for 2020-21 was not fully guaranteed if he was waived before July 6 of this year.
He was under contract for $1.7 million this year and would have made $1.8 million next season.
Following Nwaba’s injury, the Nets filed for and were granted a disabled player exception. However, they were only given $839,000. Waiving a player gives the Nets more room to work with.
The Nets are waiving G/F David Nwaba, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Nwaba will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles tendon.

If the money adds up, Iman Shumpert might be the best fit for the Nets. Of course, the wing is familiar with the organization, having played for them while Wilson Chandler was out. He’s also known Kenny Atkinson since they were both with the New York Knicks.
