Report: Multiple Western Conference contenders interested in Spencer Dinwiddie

The Spencer Dinwiddie rumors continue to fly — though now, possible suitors are the ones discussing the Brooklyn Nets guard.

Back in February, during what was a quiet NBA Trade Deadline in Brooklyn, one Western Conference team reportedly reached out to the Nets about Spencer Dinwiddie: the Los Angeles Lakers.

Of course, Dinwiddie’s childhood team went on to win the 2020 NBA Finals in six games over the Miami Heat in the Disney bubble, while the Nets guard was unable to join Brooklyn for the restart after testing positive for COVID-19 before teams left for Florida.

But while the Lakers won without Dinwiddie that doesn’t mean they necessarily lost interest in the veteran.

Now, Ian Begley doesn’t name specific organizations in his report for SNY, the Lakers could easily be one of the “multiple Western Conference contenders” that have “expressed interest internally” in Dinwiddie given the report from February.

While Dinwiddie’s name has popped up as much as any Nets players’ in the NBA trade rumor mill, this is the first offseason report in which a possible suitor was looking to acquire Dinwiddie, as opposed to Brooklyn using him as a trade piece.
