Report: Mike Vrabel interested in idea of returning to Patriots

Mike Vrabel is reportedly interested in returning to New England, if the Patriots move on from Bill Belichick

If the New England Patriots decide to move on from Bill Belichick, Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel would reportedly be interested in returning to his former team.

Vrabel was in New England during the Titans’ bye week to be honored and inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. It was a feel-good moment that might have rekindled some longtime feelings.

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported the news on Monday.

“As the #Titans weigh HC Mike Vrabel’s future this week, he’s interested in the idea of returning to the #Patriots, should New England part ways with Bill Belichick,” Schultz posted on social media.

Vrabel would be an intriguing option for the Patriots that would make for a smoother transition into the post-Belichick era.

Granted, that signing might feel like a slap in the face of Jerod Mayo, who passed up a head coaching interview in an effort to prepare for this opportunity under Belichick.

But then again, Mayo has never been a head coach, and he’s never held the official title of a coordinator. Could that impact the Patriots’ decision if hiring Vrabel really is an option?

It’s one of many storylines to keep an eye on in the coming days.
