ESPN FPI has long had the Big Ten Week 7 Maryland game as Michigan’s best chance to get another win down the stretch, but that game could be in jeopardy.
According to The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, the Michigan football program is pausing team activities after some tests looked as if they came back positive. The football program is one of few across the conference that hasn’t had such a pause since returning to campus in mid-June.
The Michigan Insider has learned that the Michigan Football program is pausing team activities effective today based on presumptive positive tests. The team was alerted to the shutdown earlier this morning. Whether this is a momentary stoppage or something lengthier will depend upon “confirmatory PCR test results. All meetings planned for the day will commence virtually in order to continue the preparation for Saturday’s matchup with Maryland if it winds up not being canceled.
If this holds true, and the pause continues into the Maryland game, it’ll be interesting to see what happens the following week. As of current, Ohio State is paused because of a team outbreak, which caused a cancellation of this past week’s contest, scheduled against Illinois. With both teams having potential issues, the likelihood of a Dec. 12 matchup looks slim — which would all but eliminate Ohio State from the playoff or the Big Ten Championship.
