A familiar face is coming back for the New England Patriots. Former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is coming back to the organization, according to The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride.
Patricia most recently served as the head coach for the Detroit Lions. He was fired by the Lions on November 28 after compiling a 13-28 record in three seasons in the Motor City.
Patricia was a key part of New England’s success. Having served under Bill Belichick from 2004-2017 as the defensive coordinator, he was integral part of two Super Bowl wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons.
Patricia handle a number of different roles for New England — though they were not clearly defined in the Globe’s report. All the current coaches on the staff will keep their positions.
It will be interesting to see what his role is as New England aims to sure things up defensively.
