Former New England Patriots assistant coach Matt Patricia has reportedly been promoted as the new defensive play-caller for the Philadelphia Eagles.
FOX’s Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that the Eagles had moved Sean Desai out of the defensive play-calling position and replaced him with Patricia. Desai will remain with the team in a different capacity, while Patricia is back to calling a defense.
Patricia spent the 2022 season calling the offensive plays and coaching the offensive line for the Patriots, which was an absolute disaster from the start. However, he is still one of the best defensive minds in the league, and the Eagles could benefit greatly with him stepping up in a more prominent role.
A little @Eagles scoopage today: Philly very quietly made a change at defensive coordinator this week moving out Sean Desai to another position and replacing him with Matt Patricia. Desai remains with the team in different capacity but Patricia now runs and calls the defense…

The Eagles are still in the thick of things in the NFC and viewed by many as a Super Bowl favorite. You won’t find many assistant coaches more experienced than Patricia when it comes to calling a defense in big-game moments.
