The Chicago Bears finally have their general manager in Ryan Poles, and his first order of business is hiring a new head coach.
From the sound of things, Poles will have control when it comes to hiring the Bears’ next coach. Which is encouraging considering he’s a football guy that wants to do his job without interference.
Right now, the Bears have three head coach candidates that are getting second interviews in Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell.
According to The Athletic‘s Adam Jahns, Eberflus is “still considered a top finalist” for the Bears’ head coach job. Eberflus is set to interview for the second time on Wednesday, which will mark the first interview for Poles as GM.
Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is still considered a top finalist for the Bears’ head coach opening. According to a source, he’s still set to meet with the team — which will soon include Ryan Poles — tomorrow.

With the belief that Poles is now running this head coach search, he’ll need to find a head coach with a plan in place to develop quarterback Justin Fields. Especially if it’s a defensive-minded head coach, like Quinn or Eberflus.
There’s also a question about whether Poles will add some head coach finalists to the list. After all, now the head coach search can officially commence with Poles in place as GM.
