Report: Magic to interview Lakers assistant Jason Kidd for head coach job

The Orlando Magic will be interviewing Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd for its head coaching gig.

Multiple teams in offseason mode are currently searching for their next head coach to lead their rosters next season.

One of the latest teams to move on from their last head coach is the Orlando Magic.

After a 21-51 record to finish the season, placing 14th in the Eastern Conference, the Magic are gearing for a full rebuild as many of its young stars are slated to return from injury next season.

Steve Clifford coached the Magic for three seasons, including two playoff births, but the team is looking in a new direction for the rebuild.

One candidate the Magic will be interviewing to replace Clifford is Jason Kidd, currently an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Melissa Rohlin of FOX Sports:

Kidd has received interest from the Boston Celtics and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers in recent weeks, but he withdrew from the Trail Blazers’ consideration after Lillard’s comments.

Kidd has previous head coaching experience with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. He made the playoffs twice with the Bucks but was fired in his fourth season after Milwaukee failed to meet expectations with the roster.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel brought Kidd to Los Angeles the following season where he’s been since.
