Report: LSU fires Will Wade a day after loss to Arkansas

Will Wade, who was always a target of Arkansas fans, was reportedly fired by LSU on Saturday.

Arkansas fans may miss having one of their favorite targets on the sidelines next year.

Per reports, LSU fired basketball coach Will Wade on Saturday, just a day after the Tigers were eliminated from the SEC Tournament by the Hogs.

A bit more significantly to Wade’s dismissal were the notice of allegations for violations in the program. The notice of allegations had not been revealed as of mid-afternoon Saturday.

Wade had been suspended near the end of the 2018-19 season when conversations taped by the FBI led to allegations of improprieties in recruiting. The suspension came after Wade and his counsel decided not to meet with the school and NCAA about the allegations.

Wade was hired at LSU in advance of the 2017-18 season. The Tigers made, or will make, the postseason in four of his five years at the helm, including the 2019-20 season in which no NCAA Tournament was played because of COVID-19.

Assistant coach Kevin Nickelberry will assume the duties of interim coach for the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament next week, per reports.
