LSU football is set to make a massive addition on the defensive side of the ball.
According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Tigers will sign defensive end Patrick Payton, the No. 2 ranked player in the transfer portal.
LSU has not officially announced the signing, but all signs point to Payton landing at LSU.
Payton is transferring from Florida State, where he spent the first four years of his career. In adding Payton, LSU is getting a player with 90 career pressures and 14 sacks, according to PFF. He can defend the run with 66 career stops.
LSU has been busy recruiting defensive ends in the portal. LSU already added former Florida DE Jack Pyburn and former Nebraska DE Jimari Butler. Payton will mark LSU’s third defensive end singing this cycle.
The position became a big need for LSU with Bradyn Swinson and Sai’Vion Jones heading to the NFL, along with Da’Shawn Womack transferring to Ole Miss.
Payton gives LSU a player with power conference experience who can play right away.
