Report: LiAngelo Ball to play in NBA G League bubble at Disney

Ball most recently appeared in training camp with the Pistons prior to being waived on Dec. 14.

LiAngelo Ball, the middle brother of Lonzo and LaMelo, has reportedly signed a contract with the NBA G League to play in the bubble at the Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Ball made a brief appearance in training camp with the Detroit Pistons and was eventually waived on Dec. 14. The 22-year-old did not play in either of the Pistons’ two preseason games but was given praise by head coach Dwane Casey.

Prior to joining the Pistons, Ball spent a portion of last season in the NBA G League with the Oklahoma City Blue. He joined the team in December 2019 as a practice player and was set to debut with the Blue prior to the suspension of the G League season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The NBA G League is finalizing plans to host a 12-to-15 game season in a bubble environment at Disney. 18 existing teams, plus the NBA G League Ignite, have opted into playing starting Feb. 8 with the playoffs set to run March 5-9.

Since Ball was waived by the Pistons, he would normally have been sent to their NBA G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. However, the Drive are among the 11 teams that opted out of the bubble so it is unclear which team Ball will suit up for.

Teams are expected to arrive at Disney ahead of the season on Jan. 26.
