It appears LA Knight might be able to “talk to ya” for some time to come.
PW Insider (subscription required) reports that WWE and Knight are close to an agreement on a contract extension, or perhaps have already signed one, to keep the 40-year-old around for multiple years. Some of the outlet’s sources believe the new deal could be for five years, which would run through 2028.
Knight has been one of the more pleasant surprises in WWE this year, breaking through with fans in a big way despite not being pushed heavily in the first half of 2023. His crowd reactions have been consistently positive, with fans chanting his name and trademark “Yeah!” so often that he was pivoted from heel to face to take advantage of that fact.
(Anecdotally, outside Ford Field in Detroit, Knight was the subject of numerous spontaneous chants among fans waiting to get in for SummerSlam last month.)
Not that it’s been an easy road to stardom for Knight, who said he felt he was all but fired in the spring of 2022 before he was repackaged as Max Dupri, mastermind behind the Maximum Male Models. He reverted to the LA Knight name last fall, and WWE finally seems to be comfortable giving him the ball and running with it: He won the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam and defeated The Miz at Payback.
Time will tell what the future holds for the Megastar, but it does appear to be his game for at least the next few years.
