Report: Kyrie Irving proposed players ‘could start their own league’

Kyrie Irving is reportedly urging Brooklyn Nets players to skip the Orlando bubble at Disney World.

Kyrie Irving is not alone in his stance that the NBA should not resume the 2019-20 NBA season at Disney World in Orlando so it doesn’t distract the public from the Black Lives Matter movement, which has the attention of the nation during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Still, the NBA is in position to resume at the end of July and the league has reportedly issued guidelines to teams about how things should be conducted moving forward.

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the 22 teams expected to play in Orlando, but has Irving “urged Nets players to skip the bubble recently in a separate group chat,” according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Additionally, per Bondy, Irving “proposed that players could start their own league” in the same chat.

Following the Friday meeting (June 12) in which Irving and other players talked about the league not resuming play, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Irving said:

If it’s worth the risk, then let’s go and do it But if you’re not with it, it’s OK, too. We’ve got options for both ways. Let’s just come to a middle ground as a family.
