Report: Kenny Atkinson had ‘strong’ interview for one Eastern Conference head coach opening

Kenny Atkinson may be back to head coaching as soon as next season, and he might stay in the Eastern Conference with the Brooklyn Nets.

When the Nets and Kenny Atkinson parted ways back in March, everyone expected the ex-Brooklyn head coach would have no problem finding a new job once others opened up after the 2019-20 season came to a close.

As play was put on hold, Atkinson and others had to wait for opportunities to surface.

While Atkinson’s old job has been filled by Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans head coach positions are still vacant.

So far, Atkinson has only been linked to the Bulls’ opening. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Atkinson is “among the coaches who have had strong interviews [with Chicago] so far.”

Also up for the Bulls’ job, according to Charania, are Denver Nuggets assistant coach Wes Unseld Jr., Sixers assistant coach Ime Udoka and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham.
