The Cleveland Browns head coaching gig is Josh McDaniels’ dream job, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. McDaniels wants the Browns job, which opened up after the organization fired Freddie Kitchens after one year in the role. The team is also undergoing a transition at general manager after parting ways with John Dorsey — it seems Paul Depodesta will be taking an increased role in the personnel department.
Just 12 months ago, there was tremendous optimism surrounding the Browns. It only grew during the 2019 offseason when they acquired receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The combination of Beckham and Jarvis Landry seemed like the perfect way to unlock quarterback Baker Mayfield’s potential. But history repeated itself — the Browns disappointed.

That’s why the Browns have an opening. But the 2020 Browns provide the same reason for optimism at the 2019 Browns. McDaniels likely admires Mayfield’s potential, and they could be a nice fit. But it seems the Browns are open to hiring a few other candidates: Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski.
