The Arizona Cardinals will take on the New York Jets this weekend on the road. The Jets are winless at 0-4 and might not have their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, in the lineup.
According to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta, the Jets are not planning on having Darnold in the lineup this weekend.
As of now, Jets are not planning to play Sam Darnold Sunday vs Cardinals, I’m told.
He wants to play — and maybe he could — but there’s sentiment in organization that it would be reckless. Smarter to give him more time to rest/heal separated shoulder https://t.co/vwVIYMniz4 pic.twitter.com/i6Qu3CbzyZ

He suffered a shoulder injury in the Jets’ Thursday night loss to the Denver Broncos, although he finished the game last week.
That would mean the Cardinals would face Joe Flacco, Darnold’s backup.
While the Jets plan on sitting Darnold, at least according to Mehta, Darnold wants play and is preparing as if he were going to start on Sunday.
“The most important thing for me is going out there if I can,” Darnold said on Monday, via the New York Daily News. “If I’m able to play and I don’t play, that’s worse than anything in my opinion.”
The Jets’ first injury report of the week will come out Wednesday afternoon. We will see how much work he is getting then.
Already a bit of a must-win game for the Cardinals, if they face a winless team with a backup quarterback, getting a win after two straight losses becomes even more important.
