Report: Jaylen ‘Brown could be the one to acknowledge that the mix isn’t right’ if Boston’s play doesn’t improve

Should Boston be worried Jaylen Brown might want out?

The Boston Celtics might have to worry about some internal voices within the team having an interest in splitting up the star forwards Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, according to Heavy.com’s Steve Bulpett.

In a new article, the veteran Celtics writer revealed that multiple sources he has been speaking to around the league suggest that “absent the team getting its act together and playing more to its potential, Brown could be the one to acknowledge that the mix isn’t right and seek a move”. Before you get your dander up, keep in mind a few important details; this is silly season, so much of what you read has an agenda behind it, that these sources are possibly people who’d like to see Brown on their team, and as far as we can tell it is not Brown that is saying such things.

Using Occam’s razor and quotes from the report (i.e. “just the possibility that a player of Brown’s abilities may find his way to the market has raised the eyebrows of a number of general managers”) and the fact that any source with any identifying information are tied to opposing teams, and you get the impression that these beliefs could also perhaps be used to create smoke where there is no fire.

That said, Bulpett relates that “Celtic sources insist they’re not floating Brown’s name in trade talks, and word back from other clubs confirms that such is the case.”

Reading between the lines is a critical skill at this point in the NBA calendar, but the point on which the author closes that the team cannot continue to hover around .500 is spot on, however you want to interpret Bulpett’s sources.
