Report: Jason Kidd ‘not part of’ New Orleans Pelicans head coach search

The New Orleans Pelicans’ search for a head coach has continued this week, but it does not include Jason Kidd, contradicting a previous report.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ search for a head coach has gained steam in the last week and has seen multiple names rumored to be included. While Adrian Wojnarowski reported the likes of Ty Lue and Stan Van Gundy received during the week, another report indicated Jason Kidd was a potential other name included as a finalist.

On Thursday morning, The Athletic’s Sham Charania added clarity to that last name, stating that Kidd is not included as a finalist.

“Sources added Lakers assistant Jason Kidd is not part of the Pelicans’ process right now.”

The term finalist was one used first by Wojnarowski and then by Charania on Thursday. Both Lue and Van Gundy are considered finalists for the position while two other unnamed finalists will interview for the position this week, per Charania.

Chris Finch is another name that has been mentioned in trade rumors around the Pelicans, though not directly with the team. An assistant coach under Alvin Gentry, Finch is considered one of the frontrunners for the Pacers’ opening for head coach.
