Report: Jason Kidd could bring more Lakers staffers to Mavericks

More members of the Lakers staff could join Jason Kidd in Texas, according to a report.

After two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, former assistant coach Jason Kidd is now the man in charge in Dallas.

The Dallas Mavericks have officially hired Kidd to replace Rick Carlisle as head coach. Carlisle had been the head coach for 13 seasons, including a championship, but parted ways with the team following a disappointing exit in the first round of the playoffs.

Carlisle also said he hoped Kidd would be his replacement just moments before talks between Kidd and Dallas amplified.

Now that Kidd is heading the staff in Dallas, he’ll need to finalize his own coaching staff.

According to Kyle Goon of Southern California News Group, current members of the Lakers could make their way to Dallas:

“Cultivating a coaching staff takes time, but multiple sources who spoke to Southern California News Group on Friday said it is possible that Kidd could ask current Lakers staffers to join him in Texas to coach a team built around budding superstar Luka Doncic.”

It’s not clear who Kidd would want to bring over, but providing people a bigger role could be enticing.

Besides Kidd, the Lakers have Lionel Hollins, Phil Handy, Miles Simon, Quinton Crawford and Mike Penberthy as assistant coaches. Player development staff, scouts and video coordinators are also possible options to leave to Dallas, depending on if Kidd seeks to bring them over.

Los Angeles had little turnover with the coaching staff after winning the championship in the 2019-20 season but that could soon change.
