Report: Jarrett Allen to become restricted free agent after 2020-21, can’t agree on extension with Nets

Jarrett Allen will become a restricted free agent after the 2020-21 NBA season.

Monday was the deadline for the Brooklyn Nets and Jarrett Allen to come to an agreement on a rookie scale contract extension — something they gave to Taurean Prince last season before he played in a regular season game for the team that had acquired him only months before.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Allen and the Nets were unable to come to an agreement on a deal by the deadline. This means Brooklyn’s first-round pick from the 2017 NBA draft (No. 22 overall) will become a restricted free agent after the 2020-21 season.

While Allen will be able to field offers from other teams as a restricted free agent, the Nets will be allowed to match any offer made to him. Given his athleticism at his size, and the presence he can provide in the paint on the defensive end, Allen should fetch a pretty penny — and the Nets should match it.
