Report: Jarrett Allen, Nets have had exploratory extension talks

Jarrett Allen is up for a rookie scale extension, but the deadline for him and the Brooklyn Nets is fast-approaching.

If Jarrett Allen wants to stay with the Brooklyn Nets long term and not test the free agent market, the big man only has a little time left to agree to terms on a rookie scale extension. The deadline for those talks is December 21, the day before the start of the 2020-21 NBA season and the Nets’ opening game against the Golden State Warriors.

According to Michael Scotto of USA TODAY SMG’s HoopsHype, the Nets and Allen “have had exploratory extension talks.” Scotto also added in his report, “According to a league source close to Allen, he wants to remain a Net long-term, has enjoyed learning from Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, and believes the team is a championship contender.”

Should the Nets and Allen fail to agree to terms on an extension, the big man would then become eligible for a $5.66 million qualifying offer in the offseason, which would make him a restricted free agent.
