Don’t expect the Jared Goff experience as Detroit’s starting quarterback to end anytime soon. Despite Lions head coach Dan Campbell challenging Goff to step up after a rotten performance in Week 6 for the winless team, there is no quarterback change coming. That’s according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, echoing what local reporters have consistently stated throughout the week.
Here’s what Rapoport stated Sunday about the current job security for Goff,
First, play the QB who gives them the best chance to win. As of now, that is Goff. There have not yet been conversations in the building about benching Goff in favor of David Blough. If the struggles continue, perhaps in the future. But not now. Goff does not have endless rope, but he does have plenty.
Rapoport noted that the Lions are still evaluating if Goff is the long-term answer at quarterback and “no conclusions have been reached.” That’s also consistent with everything being noted locally coming out of Allen Park.
The fans have jumped to the conclusion that Goff is not the long-term answer. With over 4,000 responses to our poll, it’s a resounding vote against Goff as the long-term QB in Detroit.
Goff and the Lions square off against Matthew Stafford and the Rams on Sunday in Los Angeles, where Goff played his first five seasons.
