Report: Hornets to dismiss James Borrego after four seasons

After four seasons, Borrego’s term as the head coach in Charlotte comes to an end.

Next season, LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets will have a new leader on the sidelines.

First reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Charlotte is set to fire James Borrego after four seasons as the Hornets head coach.

As Wojnarowski noted, Borrego and the Hornets improved their win total by 10 each of the past three seasons, including making the Play-In tournament the past two seasons. Yet, that didn’t seem to be enough for Michael Jordan and Mitch Kupchak, despite giving Borrego a contract extension in August.

Over the last two seasons, the Hornets dealt with lengthy injuries to Gordon Hayward along with the inability to close games on the defensive end of the floor for a young team.

The Hornets now join the Lakers and Kings as the current head coaching vacancies across the league.

Stay tuned to Lonzo Wire for updates on who the Hornets will target as their next head coach.
