It took the NFL long enough but it appears they have completed the investigation into former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. According to multiple sources, Brown has been suspended for eight games based on the information the league gathered surrounding multiple off-field allegations.

There are conflicting reports but it is believed that Brown’s suspension begins week One but could be extended beyond that if any further violations are found during that time. This means for the team that signs Brown, he is going to have to sit for the first eight games.

This will impact Brown in a number of ways. First, this kills any financial leverage he could have in a contract. Brown could find himself playing for a league-minimum deal with some performance incentives thrown in.

It will also impact a timeline to add him to a team. If his suspension starts immediately, teams can wait but if the suspension kicks in once he’s on a team, it could speed up how quickly a team wants to add him just to get those eight games out of the way.
