The 2020-21 season was good to former Oklahoma Sooners basketball star Trae Young. This past season he led his Atlanta Hawks into the playoffs and came close to his first NBA Finals appearance. It was all for not as the Milwaukee Bucks were able to take down Atlanta and eventually won the title.
Leading the team that deep into the playoffs was still a win for Young and the Hawks. The team has been committed to their star point guard and now he will be rewarded for his efforts according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Atlanta Hawks All-Star G Trae Young has agreed to a five-year, $207 million designated rookie maximum extension, his agent Omar Wilkes of @KlutchSports tells ESPN.

The five-year extension will keep Trae Young locked up with Atlanta through the 2025-26 NBA season. Originally he was set to earn a base salary of $8.3 million for the upcoming season. With the extension, Young is set to make a base salary of $29.75 million in 2021 and that number moves north of $30 million to $39.3 million by 2025 according to Spotrac.
This past season Young averaged 25.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 9.4 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. He made 63 starts throughout the regular season for Atlanta. At the age of 23, Young will enter his fourth season in the league after being drafted with the fifth overall selection in the 2018 NBA draft before being traded to Atlanta from Dallas.
Young was named as an NBA All-Star in 2020 and first-team All-Rookie in 2019. As a Sooner, the point guard tied an NCAA record with 22 assists in a single game. He also became the only player ever to lead the NCAA in both points and assists in a single season.
