It’s anyone’s guess on when the Jacksonville Jaguars will officially name their coaching staff, but Urban Meyer is indeed making progress on the group day-by-day. He’s already snagged several coaches with NFL experience and is expected to get another one in former Atlanta Falcons run game coordinator, Tosh Lupoi, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Lupoi, 39, will bring two years of experience to the Jags’ staff. In 2019, he was the Cleveland Browns defensive line coach and took the same role with the Falcons in 2020 in addition to being a run game coordinator. During his run in Cleveland, the Browns were ranked 30th against the pass (allowing a 144.7 YPG average) but was ninth against the rush (allowing a 108.2 YPG average). Last season, the Falcons were dead last against the pass (allowed a 307.4 YPG average) but were sixth against the rush (allowing a 104.8 YPG average).
Before his time in the NFL, Lupoi was the defensive coordinator for the University of Alabama. During his time there, he worked with notables like safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ronnie Harrison, linebackers Reuben Foster and Rashaan Evans, and defensive lineman Jonathan Allen to name a few. Notables like defensive linemen Quennin Williams and Christian Barmore were on the roster as well.
Lupoi worked under coach Dan Quinn in Atlanta, who is a former assistant of Meyer during his time at Florida. Lupoi will now work under defensive coordinator Joe Cullen with the Jags and work alongside defensive assistants Chris Ash and Sterling Lucas, to name a few.
