Report: Former 49ers CB K’Waun Williams joining Broncos

K’Waun Williams is leaving the #49ers after five very good seasons.

The 49ers secondary is going to look a lot different next season. With cornerback Charvarius Ward officially signed, the openings on the roster have started closing. Now slot corner K’Waun Williams is headed to Denver on a two-year deal per Pro Football Network’s Mike Kaye.

Williams, 30, joined the 49ers in 2017 and quickly became a mainstay in their secondary, playing in 65 games across his five seasons in red and gold. He racked up 224 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four interceptions and 17 pass breakups.

There weren’t many players on San Francisco’s defense over the last five years that were as consistently good as Williams.

However, the writing was on the wall for his exit when the 49ers re-signed him on a one-year deal last offseason before drafting two cornerbacks. When they signed Ward this offseason it looked like Williams would be the odd man out with Ward, Emmanuel Moseley and Ambry Thomas holding down the three CB spots.

Williams is the second 49ers defender to head to the Broncos this year. Defensive lineman DJ Jones also went to the Mile High City on a three-year deal early in free agency.
