As Florida men’s basketball approaches its season opener against the USF Bulls on Monday, preseason All-SEC forward [autotag]Alex Condon[/autotag]’s injury status remains in question.
Condon suffered a minor knee injury ahead of Florida’s first preseason scrimmage against FIU, according to head coach Todd Golden, but he played 21 minutes against Charleston the following week.
“He’s healthy,” Golden said earlier this week. “He was flying around out there, and, obviously, it was impactful. Like I said, the addition with him and his depth that he provides, and then you have Rueben (Chinyelu), Sam (Alexis), Tommy (Haugh), that group was really good. He looks good, and he looks like he should be ready to help us on Monday night.”
CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein reported that Condon will be available for Florida on Monday, sourcing Golden. It remains unclear if he will a part of the starting lineup, but he’s expected to be the biggest factor in Florida’s frontcourt once he’s healthy.
Condon appeared in all 36 games for Florida last season, earning SEC All-Freshman honors. He averaged 7.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game coming off the bench.
The Gators do not have to submit an availability report ahead of the season opener since it is a non-conference matchup.
