Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Jordan Taylor will work out for the Houston Texans next week, according to a report from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (subscription required for link).
Taylor (6-5, 195 pounds) played college football at Rice and signed with the Broncos as a college free agent in 2015. His teammates nicknamed him “Sunshine” because his hair resembled that of Ronnie “Sunshine” Bass, a former high school quarterback made famous by the film Remember the Titans.
Taylor spent his rookie season on Denver’s practice squad and ran routes for Peyton Manning while the quarterback was recovering from an injury. Manning rewarded Taylor by buying him a custom suit. Manning also told media members that Taylor would be a player to watch for in 2016.
Taylor made some impressive one-handed catches in training camp that summer but had a relatively quiet regular season. Taylor caught 16 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in 2016. The next year, his numbers dipped — 13 catches for 142 yards and no scores.
Taylor missed all of the 2018 season after undergoing hip surgeries and the Broncos opted not to re-sign him last spring. He then signed with the Minnesota Vikings but failed to make their 53-man roster.
Taylor hasn’t played in a regular season game since the 2017 season.
