Report: Dolphins have “strong grades” on three 2020 QBs

Four weeks from today, we’ll have our answer. The anticipation of who the Dolphins will be choosing to invest in as their next franchise quarterback — and what it will cost to secure him — has been building up for over a full year. Ever since the Dolphins openly declared themselves to be in a rebuild, it’s been the pressing question on the minds of fans everywhere.

The time for talk and speculation is almost over. Miami will have their chance at a quarterback sooner rather than later and, according to NFL Network’s lead NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, the Dolphins have three quarterbacks who they really like.

Earlier this week, Jeremiah shared his thoughts on what the perfect landing spots were for each of the quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft after the first wave of free agency. And while Jeremiah’s pairing with the Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa, is hardly a noteworthy headline at this point, his footnote on Miami should be of particular interest to Dolphins fans.

“I’ve been told by trusted personnel sources around the league that the Dolphins have strong grades on (Joe) Burrow, Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert,” wrote Jeremiah.

Provided Jeremiah’s sourcing is indeed correct, the Dolphins have to feel great about their chances of coming out of this year’s NFL Draft with a quarterback they like. Between Burrow’s presumed selection by the Bengals and the presence of Chase Young as a top-end defensive talent, Miami simply needs to see one other selection made that isn’t a quarterback for the team to be ensured one of their three “strong” grades at quarterback to be there at 5. And if the Dolphins feel confident in getting equal returns for a number of quarterbacks, how assertive will they be in trading up to get one versus staying put and keeping the extra draft capital?

This, of course, is assuming that someone else makes a play in front of the Dolphins to draft one of Herbert and Tagovailoa, as well — no sure thing. It’s a very real possibility that Miami could stay put at 5 and get to choose between the two as well.
