Dede Westbrook has officially signed with the Vikings, according to Young Money APAA Sports, which represents Westbrook among other professional athletes. The company made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday.
This news should not come as a huge surprise to Vikings fans. Minnesota was expected to sign Westbrook today, according to Josina Anderson.
Per Anderson, Westbrook is expected to sign a one-year deal. The details of the deal have not been officially released at this time.
Presumably, Westbrook fills an important role for Minnesota. The Vikings desperately needed a third wide receiver to ease the pressure off Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson. Prior to Westbrook signing, there was a big drop off on the wideout depth chart after Jefferson and Thielen.
Westbrook can thrive as a third option. He’s a very capable slot receiver. He also returned punts when he was in Jacksonville. Minnesota can use players like Chad Beebe and Bisi Johnson as depth options at wide receiver now. Going with Johnson and Beebe as the third wideout options was risky. The Westbrook signing makes an injury to Thielen or Jefferson less dire.
