A second team is set to host free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on a visit, but again, it’s not going to be the Buffalo Bills.
First up is the Tennessee Titans. Then the next team that will reportedly host Hopkins is the New England Patriots.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Buffalo’s AFC East rivals will bring the 31-year-old wideout in to meet next week.
Prior to the Titans, the three-time first-team All-Pro had not yet made a visit with a team. Before then, the only ones said to be interested in Hopkins were the Kansas City Chiefs and Bills.
Hopkins was released by the Cardinals in late May. Prior to that, the Chiefs and Bills reportedly tried to trade for him, but his contract made that difficult.
Despite interest from title contenders like KC and Buffalo, a separate report said Hopkins is still seeking a top contract and that money is his motivator over a potential Super Bowl ring.
Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane has said he has not closed the door on adding Hopkins at some point this offseason.
The big difficulty for Buffalo and Kansas City is the salary cap. The Chiefs have the least space in the NFL at $1.099 million, according to Spotrac. The Bills have $5.492M, but the Titans and Patriots surpass both with $8.4M and $12.2M, respectively.
Bills Wire will continue to provide updates.
