With the NFL’s new league year set to start in a couple of weeks, there will be plenty of movement across the landscape. One of the teams looking to make a move is the Dallas Cowboys in regards to former Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper.
According to Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are looking to part ways with the wide receiver they once gave up a first-round pick for.
“Cowboys are ‘likely’ to release WR Amari Cooper by the start of the new league year per league sources,” Schefter tweeted. “Cooper is due $20 million in fully guaranteed money on the fifth day of the new league year, March 20.”
Parting ways with Cooper will open up about $16 million as he would only cost $6 million. The cap hit in 2022 would have been $22 million once you factor in his signing bonus that was broken up through the life of his contract.
The Cowboys already have decisions to make with pending free agents Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson. Perhaps this might give the team some incentive to look at another Alabama wide receiver in the upcoming NFL draft. Jameson Williams or John Metchie could fill a team need with so much movement amongst their wide receivers corps.
