Report: Dak Prescott to sign $31.4M franchise tender with Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott is going to sign his exclusive franchise tender with the Dallas Cowboys, according to an ESPN report.

The drama in the contract battle between quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys will take another turn, according to a report Sunday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the quarterback will sign his exclusive, $31.4 million franchise tender Monday. That gives Prescott and the team until July 15 to work out a long-term contract.

Prescott has been seeking an annual salary in the range of the top NFL quarterbacks. Seattle’s Russell Wilson is the highest paid at $35 million per season, followed by Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger at $34 million.

Per ESPN:

By signing his franchise tender, Prescott will be contractually obligated to report to training camp on time, whether he and the Cowboys can figure out a long-term deal.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones have repeatedly expressed their belief that Prescott is the team’s quarterback of the future and capable of leading the franchise back to a Super Bowl. Prescott, who turns 27 on July 29, has said on multiple occasions that he never wanted to leave the Cowboys.

Prescott was drafted by Dallas out of Mississippi State in the fourth round in 2016. Prescott has thrown for 15,778 yards with 97 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
