Report: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ‘infatuated’ with Kyle Pitts

The former Florida tight end is one of the best prospects in the drafted, and it seems Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones wants to take him.

The Cowboys just gave quarterback Dak Prescott a massive extension, and the next order of business is fairly clear: Acquire top offensive talent to surround him with. Dallas already has one of the league’s better receivers in Amari Cooper, but according to a report, its owner has his eye on a former Gators prospect. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said that Jerry Jones wants to add Kyle Pitts to the team and would target him if he’s available at No. 10.

Most mock drafts show Pitts going well within the top 10, with some showing him selected as high as fourth overall. If the Cowboys want to guarantee they get him, they will almost certainly have to trade up.

“We’re hearing this thing about Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys and the GM, being infatuated with Kyle Pitts,” Mortensen told Clint Buckley of 247Sports. “So I figure he’s gonna have to trade up to get Kyle Pitts. I think he’ll offer Emmitt Smith and Larry Allen, maybe throw in Michael Irvin. He doesn’t need Tony Romo but he has Dak Prescott, he spent $40 million a year on Dak Prescott so why not go get Kyle Pitts, or if he actually falls to 10 you couldn’t rule him out.”

fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

Pitts is coming off one of the most impressive seasons for a college tight end in recent memory, and there’s a reason he’s one of (if not the most) hyped prospects in this class not named Trevor Lawrence. Obviously, teams see the value he brings to the table, and it seems like a safe bet that he’s selected closer to No. 5 than No. 10. Still, if the Cowboys somehow managed to land the tight end at 10th overall, it seems they’d be thrilled with that outcome.
