Report: Cowboys DC Dan Quinn set to interview virtually with 4 clubs this week

From @ToddBrock24f7: Quinn will speak to Carolina and Tennessee about their HC openings on Wednesday, then the Commanders and Chargers to close out the week.

Dan Quinn has a busy week of prep coming up. Just not the kind he or Cowboys fans had been hoping for.

Following the team’s utter meltdown during Sunday’s wild-card loss to the No. 7-seeded Packers, Dallas’s defensive coordinator will not be crunching tape and devising coverage schemes for the Cowboys’ divisional-round foe. No, with his newly-found free time, Quinn will be interviewing with four other teams to be their new head coach.

Quinn will speak virtually with the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans on Wednesday of this week, according to NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. The 53-year-old will follow that up by meeting online with the Washington Commanders on Thursday and the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday.

Quinn is also predicted to be a strong candidate in Seattle, where he won a Super Bowl as defensive coordinator a decade ago.

League rules prohibit Quinn, as an employee of the Cowboys, from in-person interviews until after the conclusion of the divisional round of postseason games. But with Dallas having played in the wild-card round, Quinn may participate in virtual interviews between Tuesday and the end of Sunday’s games.

Despite conducting a massive turnaround for the Dallas defense since his arrival in 2021, Quinn’s stock with many Cowboys fans took a serious nosedive over the course of the 2023 season and especially after Sunday’s awful performance. Questionable coverages and soft overall play allowed Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love to carve up the Cowboys defense- in Arlington, no less- with three touchdowns and a nearly perfect passer rating (157.2) in his first-ever postseason appearance.

Once a popular choice to take over for McCarthy in Dallas, Quinn is suddenly being looked at as part of the reason why the Cowboys were humiliated by a 48-32 score in a do-or-die game that wasn’t even that close.

A fanbase that recently pleaded to “protect Dan Quinn at all costs” may now not be all that sad to see one of his virtual interviews this week result in a defensive regime change on the Cowboys staff.
