Report: Commanders not expected to pursue Bill Belichick

The Washington Commanders will reportedly be out of the Bill Belichick sweepstakes.

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is now on the market, and multiple teams are expected to show interest. However, the Washington Commanders are not expected to be one of them, per a report from The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

“Reinforcing previous thoughts on Bill Belichick and the Commanders. The team is not expected to pursue the ex-Patriots’ head coach, per source,” Standig posted on Twitter.

There had been outside reports throughout the course of the season that Washington might show interest in hiring Belichick.

With that said, the former Patriots coach has already been linked to several teams with head coaching openings. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that the Atlanta Falcons were one of the teams interested in Belichick’s services.

Washington finished fourth in the NFC East with a 4-13 record in 2023.

It will be interesting to see where Belichick lands, with several head coaching vacancies still needing to be filled.
