Report: Colts worked out Virginia TE Jelani Woods

Colts worked out uber-athletic TE Jelani Woods ahead of the draft.

The Indianapolis Colts recently worked out Virginia tight end Jelani Woods ahead of the 2022 NFL draft, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Given his athletic profile, Woods has the attention of just about every team in the NFL leading up to the draft. His numbers at the NFL combine forced teams to meet with him and work him out before finalizing their grades.

Woods came out of the combine as arguably the most athletic tight end in recent history. At 6-foot-7 and 253 pounds, Woods ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 37.5-inch vertical.

Likely to go late on Day 2 or early on Day 3 of the draft, Woods is an intriguing prospect for the Colts. They have a need to add some depth and athleticism to the tight end room. How heavily they are willing to invest will be the question.

Woods didn’t do much production-wise during his first four collegiate seasons at Oklahoma State. After graduating, he transferred to Virginia where he posted 44 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Colts need all the help in the passing game that they can get, and Woods’ athleticism certainly provides the kind of upside that is intriguing at the position.
