The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly targeting Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator as their next head coach, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
While the announcement hasn’t been made official by the team, Steichen figured to be a front-runner for the job following his second interview with the front office last week.

According to Schefter, the Colts and Steichen can’t agree to terms of a contract until after the conclusion of Super Bowl LVII.
“The Colts and Steichen cannot agree to a deal until after Super Bowl LVII on Sunday. The Colts want to meet this week to see if they can complete a deal with Steichen, who now is their top target after Indianapolis informed other remaining candidates Sunday morning that they are out of the running.”
Steichen was an intriguing candidate from the start considering his history working with a variety of quarterbacks. He spent four seasons as the quarterbacks coach for Philip Rivers (2016-2019) and was the offensive coordinator for Justin Herbert’s rookie season in 2020.
Meanwhile, he excelled as the offensive coordinator and play-caller with the Eagles, putting quarterback Jalen Hurts in the MVP discussion.
The decision hasn’t been formally announced and Colts fans know better than most to take everything with a grain of salt until the team announces it.
But it appears the Colts have their front-runner for the head coach vacancy.
