Report: Colts skeptical about pursuing QB Lamar Jackson

The Colts reportedly are skeptical about pursuing a Lamar Jackson trade.

While the Indianapolis Colts are expected to use their first-round pick on a quarterback prospect in the 2023 NFL draft, there have been some suggestions they should go after quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Colts would have to trade at least two first-round picks for Jackson and then sign him to a contract that likely will make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. He’s also seeking a fully guaranteed deal, which will make almost every team hesitate.

There hasn’t been much smoke around the Colts going after Jackson, and it appears there won’t.

ESPN’s Stephen Holder reported that while the Colts haven’t ruled out all of their options, the team remains skeptical about making that kind of move.

Indianapolis did not rule out having discussions with Jackson, according to a team source. However, the club has not taken any substantive steps regarding Jackson and it is unclear whether it intends to do so. Team sources have expressed skepticism about pursuing Jackson.

There’s no denying Jackson would make the Colts a better team and a strong playoff contender as long as he’s on the field. Of course, that’s been an area of concern over the last two seasons as Jackson has missed a combined 11 games.

The Colts are likely to get the third crack at a quarterback prospect in the draft, and their hope is that their top-ranked prospect will still be there when they’re on the clock the night of April 27.

Anything can happen in the NFL, which is something we’re reminded of every offseason, but it does appear the Colts won’t be in the market to add Jackson, barring a significant change.
