While the NFL scouting combine gets underway Thursday, the Indianapolis Colts were reportedly among the teams that met with impending free agent quarterback Tom Brady.
Whether this is an actual development or just a move by Brady’s representation to make the Patriots believe there’s a chance he actually leaves isn’t clear. Regardless, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Brady’s representation met with the Colts and two other teams.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday Brady’s representation is meeting with clubs this week during the NFL Scouting Combine, and the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raidersand Indianapolis Colts are among those clubs. It is common for teams to meet with agents of their own prospective free agents during the combine.
It would be a surprise to see Brady actually leave the Patriots in free agency this offseason, but his representation is going to do what they can to get him the best deal possible—even at the age of 43.
The Colts are certainly in the market for a quarterback given Jacoby Brissett’s lack of long-term value. However, adding a veteran quarterback in free agency seems less likely than the Colts adding a draft pick at the position.
Brady would be an upgrade over Brissett, but the Colts likely won’t want to pay the price that comes along with the six-time Super Bowl champion if he does actually hit the league.
The Colts can begin negotiating with outside free agents on March 16 with the new league year officially beginning on March 18.
