Report: Colts’ E.J. Speed (knee) expected ‘to miss minimal time’

Colts LB E.J. Speed has a knee injury but is reportedly expected to miss ‘minimal time’

Indianapolis Colts linebacker E.J. Speed suffered a knee injury during the team’s first joint training camp practice with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, but it seems he came out with a relatively optimistic outlook.

Speed reportedly suffered a hyperextended knee during the joint practice at Grand Park but Mike Chappell of Fox59 reported that the team expects him to miss “minimal time.”

Given the massive injuries surrounding the team right now, this can be viewed as good news—all things considered.

It still isn’t clear when Speed will be able to return, but the Colts are likely to take the cautious approach as they have with the majority of players who have dealt with injuries throughout training camp.

Speed filled in for All-Pro Darius Leonard at the WILL position in the middle of the defense while the latter was recovering from an offseason ankle procedure. He did well and has been competing with Zaire Franklin for the LB3 spot in the room, but he is likely to miss some time at least in the next few days.
