The Indianapolis Colts are somewhat desperate for a quarterback this offseason so it makes sense that have been calling teams with potentially available quarterbacks.
Among those teams is the Philadelphia Eagles, who could be looking to ship off the polarizing Carson Wentz. While it isn’t clear how deep these talks got, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network said on SportsRadio 94WIP that the two sides have had conversations about it.
“I do know that the Eagles have had conversations with the Indianapolis Colts already”, Garafolo said on the radio show Friday. “Here is the thing about the Colts, and this is why they were never strongly in the running for Matthew Stafford: These guys are really good at what they do draft-wise. They believe in themselves. … So what they do is, they are a little slow playing when it comes to these draft picks and trades.”
Whether this will actually lead to a trade remains to be seen. The Colts are likely having conversations with several teams given their need to bring in a new quarterback. We discussed the pros and cons of the Colts trading for Wentz on Thursday.
Wentz is a bit of an enigma. He was once in the running for the MVP award when working under Frank Reich but has endured a steep decline in play and health since then.
It would be costly for the Colts to acquire him and should certainly result in Indy getting draft compensation in the deal as well but it isn’t clear how deep these trade talks are.
Regardless, this will be something to keep an eye on throughout the offseason if a deal does come to fruition.
