Report: Colts ‘don’t see a great deal of separation’ in QB prospects

The Colts reportedly ‘don’t see a great deal of separation’ among the top QB prospects.

The Indianapolis Colts have roughly one month left before they decide their selection on who may be the next quarterback of the offense, and it appears they may not see a ton of separation between the top prospects.

While the Colts won’t get to choose their fate when it comes to selecting whichever quarterback they want with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, they are guaranteed at least one of the perceived top four prospects.

According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, the team sees the top of the class grouped closely together.

From my understanding, the Colts don’t see a great deal of separation between the top four quarterback prospects, which is part of the reason they didn’t actively pursue a trade up with the Bears for the top pick. Each prospect — Stroud, Alabama’s Bryce Young, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Kentucky’s Levis — is flawed to a certain extent, and Indianapolis wasn’t willing to give up a haul of draft picks to move up.

The top four prospects in the class have consistently been regarded as Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Alabama’s Bryce Young, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Kentucky’s Will Levis.

The consensus seems to be that Stroud and Young are set to go with the first two picks, respectively, which means the Colts likely will face a decision between Richardson and Levis.

While both have their issues, Richardson probably brings the higher ceiling considering his elite athleticism and abilities as a runner. Levis is the better passer, but he still has issues that will need correcting at the next level.

It’s likely the Colts will bring all four quarterbacks in on a top-30 visit throughout the month of April, and we’ll soon figure out what direction they go in over a month’s time.
