Report: Colts ‘definitely in’ on QB Carson Wentz

Indy reportedly in on Carson Wentz.

As the quarterback carousel continues this offseason, the Indianapolis Colts have been one of the teams linked with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.

It appears both sides have mutual interest as Stephen Holder of The Athletic reported that the Colts are “definitely in” on the 28-year-old signal-caller. More than that, the organization reportedly believes they can fix Wentz and the issues that have arisen recently.

The compensation for Wentz will ultimately be the deciding factor in where he goes. It’s hard to see Chris Ballard spending two first-round picks on the former No. 2 overall pick, but we also know how he feels about paying for a player he may deem “his guy.” Even though the Colts don’t currently have a starting quarterback, they aren’t lacking leverage in this situation.

The Colts may be the only team suited to work with Wentz’s issues. He had a strong relationship with head coach Frank Reich during the latter’s time as the Eagles offensive coordinator. But a down 2020 season both off and on the field have brought up many questions surrounding his ability to be a franchise quarterback.

While Wentz was once considered an MVP candidate under the tutelage of Reich, he has dealt with injuries and inconsistent play. There is also the case of reports that he’s uncoachable, but that’s impossible to know for sure unless we’re in the room.

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this, but it certainly seems the Colts have interest and feel they have the resources to help Wentz succeeed.
