Report: Chiefs expected to rest starters vs. Broncos in Week 18

The Chiefs are expected to rest key starters against the Broncos in Week 18.

With the No. 1 seed already secured, the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to rest their key starters against the Denver Broncos in their regular season finale, according to a report from Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

“Twenty-four days of rest is almost unheard of in the NFL, but for some of Kansas City’s starters that’s what they’ll be getting,” Jones said on the CBS Sports Network’s NFL pregame show on Sunday morning. “The Chiefs are expected to rest key starters until their playoff game, and that would include Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. Several other starters will either be inactive or won’t play, and the team is going to work through that this upcoming week as they make that official.”

With Mahomes sitting out, Kansas City is expected to start Carson Wentz against Denver. Wentz has a 47-45-1 career win-loss-tie record in the NFL. The Broncos can clinch a spot in the NFL playoffs by beating or tying the Chiefs in Week 18.
