The Kansas City Chiefs are still awaiting the go-ahead from the NFL to proceed as planned with their rookie report date for training camp according to a new report.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Chiefs rookies are scheduled to show up to training camp on Saturday, July 18. According to the protocols set forth by the NFL, players must take and pass COVID-19 tests 48 hours prior to their arrival at training camp. Schefter says the NFL hasn’t yet cleared players to return to team training facilities just days before their supposed arrival.
This obviously raises the question as to whether Chiefs’ rookies will be arriving at camp as scheduled.

Rookies and injured players typically report to training camp ahead of veterans to get acclimated before everyone arrives for camp. Obviously, things are a little different this season. There are still protocols and conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic being finalized between the league and the NFLPA.
Ultimately, there is some buffer time for training camp with the potential for canceled preseason games. Kansas City will still need adequate ramp-up time ahead of any games, preseason or regular season, in order for players to get their bodies prepared for the rigors of football. For now, the Chiefs, like the other 31 teams, anxiously await direction from the league.
